Great Sporting Week

It was of exact timing that my 9 days off due to Eid Holidays corresponds to great sporting events. I nearly watched all of those from boxing, NBA, NFL and college football and basketball... Sorry guys but I'm not into the soccer games (UEFA and the Premier league) but it is always being shown here most of the time....

Lets start it off with Manny Pacquiao demolishing the Golden Boy... outstanding performance by pacman... I was one of the doubters of pacman going up to 140/147 but what i just saw was one to remember... unbelievable hand and foot speed considering he added around 20 pounds for the fight... and the punches were superbly powerful...

I cant wait for Pacman-Hatton by next year... One of the exciting fights of 2009 considering Hatton's style, it will be a brawl... but by the way of it, I'll have pacman stopping hatton in the middle rounds... The punches that pacman have thrown to dela hoya would KO'd Hatton... Hahaha...

Inside the NFL, entering week 15 and Super Bowl fever, I'll pick the Giants to repeat against the best team today, Tennessee Titans.

I was loving the win streak of the Jets (and Brett Favre) but two straight losing weeks is so awful... the early Bowl fever was gone... But they are tied with Dolphins and Patriots for NFC East supremacy...

What's happening to NY Giants??? A futile loss to the Eagles was unacceptable... Plaxico Buress was gone (if you're watching the news, you know what happen)... Poor Plax, last year, the hero of Super Bowl XLII, now a felon... But I'll still pick the Giants winning it again against the Titans...

The then-undefeated Patriots of last year before the ill-fated Bowl is suffering a lot from injuries... QB Brady, S Meriweather and now LB Bruschi... Plus the fact taht QB Cassell might miss week 15 against Raiders after the death of his father... the Patriots, now the "PAIN-triots!"

Sidebar: Justice for you OJ Simpson... The Hall of Fame RB was convicted for a minimum 9 years to a max of 33 years in prison for kidnapping, armed roberry and other cases... Its better if you've been convicted last 1995 for the murder case of your wife...

For college football, Im anticipating the BCS game on January 8 between Oklahoma Sooners and the Florida Gators. Its an offense-vs-defense championship game and for me, Sooners will take this one.

Heisman Trophy??? I'll give it to Sam Bradford over former winner Tim Tebow and Colt McCoy. Oklahoma is so fun to watch now and he is the reason.

Anyway, I think these three QBs will have a decent NFL career once they say goodbye to college...

Seventy-win season debate: Boston, Cleveland and Lakers??? Nobody!!! The Bulls 72-win season will stay forever in the record books.

Right now in the NBA, after only 20 games, I can boldly say that only four teams can win the championship the way they are playing right now. Celtics, Lakers, Cavs and Spurs (yes, they are all now healthy). Celtics will be the one celebrating come June 09.

How to demolish a championship caliber team??? Ask Detroit Pistons and Phoenix Suns... for Pistons, a six straight conference finals is not bad... what is bad, err worst, is getting AI for Billups... That's the worst thing done by Joe Dumars since handling the operations of the Pistons...

And for Phoenix, Shaq trade last year was futile... He won't change the defense outlook for the team, just another big but slow body wandering inside the paint... and admit it, he is not the same as he used to be, even far below during his last celebration at Maimi. Then, just today trading away Diaw and Bell for a scorer in J-Rich... Poor move!!! Amare's already complaining of touches with Shaq and you are adding another selfish player who at the same time haven't played for a play off team...

Early season awards...

MVP - King James - No doubt!!! He has now what is lacking during the last 3 years of MVP season performances - a good winning record. Cavs are now at 19-3 (2nd best record in the league) and one of the hottest teams today, winning 10 straight... Boston won 12 straight...

ROY - D-Rose - He is good as advertised...

Most Improved - Nene - This is the reason why Nuggets threw Camby away...

Defensive Player - KG - Do I have to say more???

College basketball season has just started... #1 North Carolina will, for me, win it all out this year... Great team, great individual talent. Tyler Hansbrough is good but not NBA caliber player...

So college basketball as always is just a scouting for the NBA draft... Aside from the 18-year-old phenom from Spain (Ricky Rubio, my friend) who is considered to be #1 in June's draft and Tyler Hansbrough (read above), I'll consider Blake Griffin, the 6-10 power forward from Oklahoma... Watching his highlights, I can say he is an athletic Carlos Boozer...

Other notables are Stephen Curry (if you are hooked to ESPN, you can see this guy burning the hoops from 3-point line) but his 6'3" 180-lb frame is questionable... Another JJ Reddick reincarnation???

Check also Brandon Jennings (who played overseas rather than college basketball), Demar DeRozan, James Harden and BJ Mullens (a rare center in the group).
